ABSTRACT

This should increase the use of this surgery in

eligible candidates. However, the greatest

effort is not related to the technical

performance of one operation or another.

Preoperative education and postoperative

reinforcement of appropriate behavior,

whether by reiterating the ‘rules of eating’ or

monitoring the use of supplements, are the

most important aspects of this surgery. If the

surgeon is not personally involved in all facets

of care of the individual patient, it is unlikely

that an optimal outcome will be achieved.
