ABSTRACT

A 50-year-old otherwise healthy woman had a history of generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCS) since she was 19 years old. At that time, a computed tomography scan of the brain, her neurological examination and her family history were all unremarkable. The EEG showed generalized spike-wave discharges, and a diagnosis of idiopathic generalized epilepsy with GTCS was made. Valproate was introduced and her seizures were well controlled with a daily dose of 1800 mg.
