ABSTRACT

The patient is a 56-year-old white woman with a 3-year history of seizures, presumably due to known cerebrovascular disease. Her moderately demented husband brought her to the emergency department for evaluation because she had remained lethargic on the kitchen floor (for 3 days) after a single witnessed seizure. Although she was treated with phenytoin, her compliance was suspect because her home situation was somewhat unsupervised.
