ABSTRACT

She then presented with partial motor seizures, which again began in the left hand but then generalized. Her carbamazepine regimen was adjusted. Two weeks later, at 11 months of age, she was hospitalized with recurrent multiple seizures. These still had a focal component with twitching of the left face but frequent generalization. In the pediatric intensive care unit she received intravenous fosphenytoin, phenobarbital and lorazepam. There was only a partial clinical response at first and then the seizures became intractable with decreased interictal responsivity. When she was given intravenous pyridoxine (vitamin B6), the seizures stopped.
