ABSTRACT
St. Petersburg was the dominant city of pre-revolutionary Russia, the seat of the tsars and the setting for many works of literature. This chapter examines the treatment of St. Petersburg in two novels by Ivan Goncharov and Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Oblomov1 and Crime and Punishment2 respectively.
