ABSTRACT
Surgical treatment of colon cancer would appear to have come a long way from the first resection and anastomosis performed by Reybard in 1833. However, despite multidisciplinary treatment advances, there has been little improvement in overall 5-year survival for over 30 years. Radical surgery still remains the only potentially curative treatment for this common cancer.
