ABSTRACT

While the primary treatment of colorectal carcinoma must rely heavily on expert surgical resection, the comprehensive care of the patient with colorectal neoplasia requires a multidisciplinary approach. The need for adjuvant systemic chemotherapy or immunotherapy, with or without concurrent radiation therapy, depends on tumor location (colon versus rectum) and stage of disease. Systemic chemotherapy may also be indicated in those with metastatic colorectal cancer. Other supportive medical and nursing services are often required.
