ABSTRACT

Neurologic diseases in which the immune system plays a crucial role in their pathogenesis are defined as neuroimmune diseases. In most of them, the pathogenetic mechanism is that of an autoimmune attack against neuronal antigens, similar to that involved in organ-specific and systemic autoimmunity. In others, the immune system involvement is not clearly associated with or responsible for the pathogenesis of the disease.
