ABSTRACT

Glaucoma in children is rare, about 1 in 10 000 births. A general ophthalmologist will probably see only one case of glaucoma in children every 5 years. However, severe visual disability is a common consequence of this disorder. Optic nerve damage, corneal scarring and amblyopia are the most common causes of visual loss. Early diagnosis and appropriate therapy can make a huge difference in the visual outcome of these patients.
