ABSTRACT
Four boat types, the vattai, vallam, patia and barki, are compared in this chapter from the point of view of their naval architecture. Figure 9.1 shows their hull profiles, drawn to a common scale so that overall size and proportion may be compared. Figure 9.2 presents perspective lines plans of the hulls, in this case adjusted to similar sizes on the paper for ease of visual comparison. The overall dimensions of each hull, as well as a number of key parameters calculated from their lines, are listed in Table 9.1 below.
