ABSTRACT

Implantation of the blastocyst into the endometrium requires synchrony between embryonic development and uterine receptivity. Until recently, conventional histology has been the only method available to evaluate the endometrium. In 1949, Dr. Georgeanna Jones first proposed LPD, which manifests as maturational delay of the endometrium, as a cause of infertility (Jones, 1949). Subsequently, the use of serum progesterone levels to evaluate the luteal phase has been advocated. Newer markers of endometrial maturation and uterine receptivity may offer complementary approaches to traditional endometrial dating.
