ABSTRACT

Carbohydrates constitute one of the three main classes of biopolymers and stand as the least exploited class in regard to therapeutic development. It is well recognized that certain cell-stage specific carbohydrate sequences play a key role in intercellular recognition and serve as cell surface markers. Glycoconjugates are involved in such biomolecular processes as cell-cell contact as well as cellular, bacterial and viral adhesion.
