ABSTRACT

In all cases where a disease is caused by a gene defect, the correction (or cure) by gene therapy seems to be an appropriate, and causal, approach. We have just begun to identify the different gene errors and to understand their roles in certain diseases, therefore gene therapy is a relatively “young” modality, with little clinical experience, but with great expectations, and frequently not without fear. Besides the biomedical aspects, numerous social, ethical, legal and economical questions should be answered. Similarly, standardization, and uniform regulations are still hot topics (1-5).
