Media Studies A level: an introduction: Elaine Scarratt
Pages 19

A level Media Studies appeared substantially later than the first formal media assessments of the late 1970s when Oxford and Cambridge and Royal Society of Arts Examinations (OCR) established the first course in 1990 with 60 candidates. Current A level Media Studies Awarding Bodies are: Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA); Oxford and Cambridge and Royal Society of Arts Examinations (OCR); Welsh Joint Education Committee (WJEC). Following OCR’s initiative, versions of A level Media Studies were developed by WJEC then AQA, and by 2010 there were 23,792 entries for A2. This total is taken from the provisional data in the Awarding Bodies’ Examiners’ Reports Unit 4 statistics, as indicating course completion.
