ABSTRACT

Metadata specifications have now been established by numerous government agencies around the world and in 1994, for example, the U.S. Federal Geographical Data Committee (FGDC) developed a metadata content standard to fit within the framework of that country’s National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI). Within the metadata standard, data quality information was included as an essential component, and in Australia/New Zealand data quality information has also been deemed to be one of the core elements of spatial metadata by the Australia New Zealand Land Information Council (ANZLIC).
