ABSTRACT
The obese male ZDF rat is considered to be a good model for NIDDM and has been used extensively since the late 1980s to investigate the mechanisms, which underlie diabetes. This model has been used for the testing many of the drugs which have been and are being developed and used for the treatment of NIDDM. Some of the long-term complications of diabetes have been studied in this model.
