Psychology in Canada

Pierre L.-J. Ritchie was raised in rural Quebec and educated at McGill University and Duke University (Ph.D., clinical psychology, 1975). Since 1980, he has taught at the University of Ottawa where he is responsible for clinical training in Canada’s only fully bilingual clinical psychology program. He is currently an associate editor for the International Journal of Psychology. Ritchie has been a leader in organized psychology for a quarter century, holding offices in Canada, the United States, and internationally. He is currently executive director of the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology and secretary-general of the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS), which he also serves as main representative in the area of psychology to the World Health Organization.
