A recent report18 has shown that 93 percent of information produced worldwide is in digital form. The volume of data added each year is estimated at more than one terabyte (i.e., 1018 bytes) and is expected to grow exponentially. This trend calls for a scalable infrastructure capable of indexing and searching rich content such as HTML, music, and image files.28
