Durability control methodology
In the structural design as well as in the MR&R planning procedure the structural designer must select from existing degradation models, frequently presented in literature on the subject. The main criteria in selecting the degradation model for each specific use are:
• dictating components of environmental loads onto structures (e.g. corrosion due to carbonation, corrosive pollutants or corrosive agents like chlorides, frost, temperature changes, moisture changes, etc.)
• availability of statistical data of variables of each model • availability of data or testing method for the coefficients of each model • accuracy of the model when using the available data in relation to the required
accuracy level • costs of IT tools and the work in calculations.
