Professionalism is defined as ‘the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterise or mark a profession or a professional person’ (Merriam-Webster, 2003:991). ‘In assuming a professional role, one conforms to the technical or ethical standards of a profession exhibiting a courteous, conscientious and generally businesslike manner in the workplace’ (Merriam-Webster, 2003:991).
