Evolution of the competition law and competition policy in Poland TOMASZ ODZIEMCZYK

The history of competition law in Poland is relatively long. The first legal regulation in this field – the ‘Act on combating unfair competition’1 – was adopted in 1926, followed by the adoption of a law against cartels in 1933.2 After the end of the Second World War in 1945 these laws were not repealed (except for the penal regulations). However, during the communist period central planners believed that monopolies were the characteristic feature of capitalistic economy and therefore the competition law was not applied.
