ABSTRACT

This book was compiled with the objective of learning from observed planning practices in order to determine what works and what the conditions are that define effectiveness. The nature of the contributions in this volume emphasises that the debate on how to plan regional open space is both contextual and ideological. Statements about what plans should look like and how they should be implemented are inevitably coloured by a specific view of the world, of society and of how public goods are secured.
