ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION This chapter outlines the strategic importance of exploiting the opportunities offered by new information and communications technologies (ICTs) to support economic regeneration and urban development. It aims to identify ways in which the applications and services being developed using advanced telecommunications and telematics should be made more accessible to local people and organisations. It highlights the potential for new projects to be developed which will enable the benefits of the development of the ‘information superhighway’ to be maximised at a local level.
