ABSTRACT

Summary: This chapter introduces findings from research on innovation and entrepreneurial education (IEE) in Icelandic compulsory schools. IEE is an emerging curriculum area in Iceland and a key feature concerns young people developing creativity and using knowledge to meet needs or solve problems that they have identified. The interaction between IEE and the settings into which it is introduced are considered, as well as the characteristics of settings, which support or hinder the development of IEE and the types of pedagogy it requires. Four different settings for IEE were identified: dormant, enclosed, developing and feasible. These vary according to level of support from colleagues and leadership for learning, showing an interaction between the characteristics of the school setting and pedagogic practice in the classroom. An ability to create a supportive but flexible learning environment conducive to creativity is critical for innovation education.
