Education and Religious Authority: Six Benchmark Questions for Framing an Enquiry
ByLiam Gearon
Pages 15

This chapter identifies a significant lacuna in researching religious authority in education. Based on findings from a two-year Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded project in which the author conducted 50 interviews with senior religious leaders and authority figures in England, I present a working definition of religious authority and a further justification or warrant for engagement with religious authority in educational research. I frame these empirically grounded methodological reflections through six benchmark questions.
