The development of geographic information systems has now reached the point where substantial numbers of turnkey production systems are being acquired from vendors and installed in public and private agencies. In many cases these agencies will have made detailed plans for the use of the system before its selection, including evaluation of workloads, and will have required potential vendors to respond
