ABSTRACT

Few would contest the fact that mental states are influenced by experiences relating to the social environment. The question thus becomes: are the mental states that form part of the diagnosis of schizophrenia, defined according to DSM, ICD or any other system’s criteria, somehow generated from within, in isolation from environmental experience?
