ABSTRACT

This is the goal of the history of the world in which God’s chosen people have a central role. In this context the Jewish people have a historical mission to be a light to the nations. Through Moses God addressed the

people and declared: ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. Now therefore, if you will obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my own possession among all people; for all the earth is mine, and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation (Exod. 19:4-6). Election was to be a servant of the Lord; to proclaim God’s truth and righteousness throughout the world. Being chosen meant duty and responsibility – it was a divine call which persisted through all ages and embraced the whole earth.
