The simple task of measuring body weight is a basic element in monitoring the physical condition of professional soccer players. However, body composition plays a far more important role in determining successful performance because excessive fat weight is clearly a disadvantage in soccer. In fact, the percent of body fat in elite soccer players has been reported to be close to 10% (Reilly, 1994) which is just as low as other sports competitors except for elite endurance athletes.
