Notational Analysis of Corner Kicks in English Premier League Soccer
Pages 3

Notational analysis is commonly used in many sports and is viewed as a vital process in allowing coaches to collect objective information that can be employed to provide feedback on performance (Franks, 1997). Without this type of analysis coaches are prone to being subjective in their judgements and unable to recall events reliably (Franks and Miller, 1986; Franks and McGarry, 1996). Hence, it is to the benefit of both the coach and the athlete that objective feedback on performance is provided via analysis systems. Recent advances in sports science and progress in technology, particularly audio/visual and computer, have led to the development of these systems (Vivian et al., 2001), with some success in monitoring and improving soccer performance (Olsen and Larsen, 1997).
