ABSTRACT

Creating Learning Objects takes a lot of time and effort. However, faculty are increasingly concerned about the recognition they will get for all their effort. Such concern are really part of a more general anxiety, namely faculty recognition for teaching activities and, in particular, electronic and multimedia projects. In recent years more attention has been given to instructional activities as part of the promotion and tenure guidelines even at the Doctoral/Research Universities. In addition, there are a number of groups who are now generating promotion guidelines that will properly document and give credit for non-paper (usually electronic) materials in the tenure package (among them are the Association of Research Libraries, Conference on College Composition and Communication of NCTE, and the University of Michigan under the direction of Carl Berger).
