ABSTRACT

Much of this colloquium is about the rigorous analysis of economic policy with special reference to Britain. In my musings on the 'swinging sixties' I shall adopt a lighter tone, deal with softer subjects, and take you to another country. To me, the 1960s bring back memories of politics in Germany, first as a government adviser, then as an elected member of Parliament, and my subjects at the time were education, social policy and the general need for change. Nach dem Ausbau der Umbau - after expansion, reform - was the theme of political debate.
