chapter  6
Sex and dinosaurs
ByHelen Haste
Pages 9

I do research in those areas regarded as unacceptable for dinner conversation in Victorian times-politics, sex and (occasionally) religion. As a consequence, I am approached periodically by the popular press to make comments on current events and give an ‘expert’ opinion on this and that. In fact, my actual research is rather more mundane; it is on the development of moral, social and political values in adolescence, and on social and development issues in gender-including gender and science. Recently, I have become interested in sociopsychological issues in science-which has involved me in work on, amongst other things, metaphors of dinosaurs.
