Introduction

Steve Ball discusses one of the main growth areas in TIE over the past ten years and reminds us that health education, while it has moved fast up the social and political agendas of most countries because of the rapid spread of HIV/AIDS, covers a wider range of concerns than many realize, and that this important area of work needs approaching with some rigour if it is not to be reduced to the level of walking/talking slide shows. There are of course other developing areas in which TIE methodology is playing a growing part, some of which (theatre in museums, in prisons and for the disabled) have been mentioned earlier. Two further brief examples here will help to underline the diversity of opportunities for TIE in the future.
