ABSTRACT
Following the Swann Report (DES, 1985a), many publications have stressed the multicultural nature of schools and society, and the increasing interdependence of cultures and nations. The educational system has been encouraged to acknowledge this, both in the curriculum and in the organisation and operation of its institutions.
