ABSTRACT

I describe myself as a “fence-sitter” when it comes to feminist economics – an early joiner of the International Association for Feminist Economics (IAFFE) who has participated regularly in its sponsored paper-presentation sessions and other activities, but who has reserved judgment on what exactly constitutes feminist economics. This is to a large extent because I am by professional and personal inclination an empiricist. I prefer to wait until a large enough corpus of publications amasses, written by persons who purport to be feminist economists and/or published in a feminist-labeled journal such as Feminist Economics, at which point I can analyze the papers with regard to topics, techniques, and results and thereby determine inductively what feminist economics apparently is.
