ABSTRACT
That we are mothered by women, that in all societies women rather than men have primary parenting responsibilities, is an important social and cultural fact that still bears remarking and analyzing. In those individual and cultural cases where we have some insight into human emotions and psychodynamics, this fact also seems to have significant import for people’s
constructions of self and interpersonal relations, for their emotions, their fantasies, and their psychological apprehensions of gender.
