University provision of CPE is not isolated in, or restricted to, one central department. To stop the analysis of providers with the CE community-the specialists-would be to bias the data collection to an unacceptable level. Decentralised CPE is a significant part of the current university norm. A proportion of this provision is interdisciplinary. However, the profession-specific nature of much work (e.g. that for teachers or civil engineers) encourages the co-ordination of courses by those departments with the highest concentration of relevant expertise. It is on those individual providing departments that this chapter concentrates.
