At an early stage of this book, I made the point that it is possible to look at QA as both a feature of modern higher education deserving academic attention in its own right, and as an essentially practicerelated matter. In working within the themes set out in the introduction, issues relating to one or both of these have been covered. But because of the breadth of the analysis-its examination of other sectors, its analytical elements, and its empirical strandspossible implications have tended to emerge at irregular intervals. In this, the concluding chapter, I will draw together those themes and issues which I regard as being potentially the most useful. In fact, this also serves to highlight many of the most illuminating features of the analysis regardless of possibility for application. However, the main purpose is practical: it is to establish a framework for quality.
