ABSTRACT
A non-invasive form of mechanical ventilation where pressure is applied externally at the nose/mouth (positive pressure device).
N.B. Negative pressure devices such as the Cuirass Jacket or Iron Lung are relatively inefficient especially when impedance to inflation is high. Consequently, positive pressure ventilation is usually the mode of choice. This section will only discuss positive pressure ventilation.
