ABSTRACT
Samothrace1 is a small and isolated island, yet it was the place of ‘Mysteries’ that radiated through the whole of the Greek and Roman world; and somehow Samothracian Mysteries have retained their fascination through the ages, mainly by the force of literary tradition.
