ABSTRACT
Infanticide and child abuse are subjects both compelling and repulsive. Because the perpetrators of these acts are also often victims, this recognition makes for a more paradoxical response. On the one hand is the image of a defenseless child, harmed by the person upon whom it depended for survival. On the other hand, is the image of a mother who may be insane, and who is isolated and imprisoned for unthinkable crimes.
