Pages 20

Work is crucial in consideration of the social determinants of health for at least three reasons. First, it has central importance in generating prosperity, which in turns allows the development of social conditions conducive to health. Second, it has a direct impact on the individual, the family and the social environment. Third, the production process may have physical and environmental impacts that affect not only the worker, but the general physical environment surrounding the workplace.
