ABSTRACT

An opponent of the coup d’etat that overthrew President Juan Bosch in 1963, Colonel Caamano Deno took part in a military insurrection against the incumbent President Donald Reid Cabral in 1965, and fought the American troops that invaded the country shordy afterwards. As Constitutional President of the Revolutionary Government, Caa mano demanded the return of Bosch from exile and the application of the 1963 Constitution. After signing-the peace treaty, he took up a diplomatic post in London but soon abandoned it. On 3 February 1973 he led a group of guerrilleros from Cuba who disembarked on Dominican soil with the aim of overthrowing the Balaguer regime. He was captured alive, and was executed by firing squad in the mountains.
