ABSTRACT
Some of the old cinemas, with what was then high-tech, wrap-around screens, used to show a sequence which started with a bird s-eye view of a small child. Then, through the use of telephoto lenses merging with satellite pictures, the camera slowly pulled back so that the child lost a little definition and became first one of a group of children and then gradually disappeared as the group became part of a street scene. The camera continued to pull back to reveal the street to be successively part of a suburb, a city, a conurbation, a country, a continent, and eventually an invisible dot on the planet Earth.
