ABSTRACT

Due to opponents’ behaviour and own-strategic planning, tennis is a game during which players continuously take decisions about their position on the field and the implication upon their technique or tactical move for that specific location. As many professional tennis players travel thousands of kilometres, and as the four major Grand Slam tournaments are all played on different kinds of court-surfaces (see Table 1, based on Bollettieri; 1986 and O’Donoghue et al., 2000), any information on court properties might be useful during preparation as failure of a player in only one of the Grand Slam tournaments leads to missing the Grand Slam title. Intuitively the divergence of “court properties/type of player” is considered as an important area for study.
