ABSTRACT

For the learner, recording achievement is gathering information about what he or she has done and is doing-a portrayal of a ‘self’ in ‘situations’. It can be entirely one’s own perception, but it can usefully involve gathering other points of view. The term ‘achievement’ implies that the portrayal will be of success-in completing some project, gaining some learning, demonstrating some ability. But most experience is a mixture of ‘success’ and ‘failure’; and not facing up to failure is the most desperate failure of all. The term ‘recording experience’ is more inclusive in this respect.
