ABSTRACT
In its widest sense sociobiology is the science that deals with the social behaviour of organisms in the light of *evolution. This would include all disciplines that accept the neo-Darwinian mandate. In the narrow sense, following the coinage of E.O.Wilson (1975), it refers to the application of specific theories of evolutionary genetics to animal (including human) behaviour. Here we shall explore both senses of the word.
