ABSTRACT

Annales school The school of French historians originally associated with the journal Annales d’histoire économique et social (now Annales: économies, sociétés, civilsations), founded in 1929, which has been especially important in the interdisciplinary development of *history and anthropology. After World War II, the school became associated with the idea of a history of †‘mentalities’, and with F.Braudel’s project for a structural history of the ‘longue durée’.
