How the press deals with refugee and asylum issues is an important factor in their appearance on the public and political agenda. This chapter examines the press portrayal of refugees and asylum-seekers in selected broadsheet and tabloid newspapers in the United Kingdom during the 1990s. The methodologies adopted combine a content analysis approach, involving quantitative analysis, with an interpretative/discourse approach, and examine a number of themes.
